Legislative Leadership

mtcapital.jpgLITW posted an open thread regarding possible candidates for statewide office.  Aside from a response which placed Bozeman's Mike Wheat in Great Falls and Great Fall's Steve Doherty in Missoula, it was an interesting list.  One respondent wondered aloud about legislative leadership.  While the HD58 recount will determine the House majority, here are those who will most likely be candidates for leadership positions:

Montana House of Representatives - Republican

  • Michael Lange - Billings
  • Alan Olson - Roundup
  • Walter McNutt - Sidney
  • John Sinrud - Bozeman
  • Dennis Himmelberger - Billings

Montana House of Representatives - Democrat

  • John Parker - Great Falls
  • Bob Bergren - Havre
  • Jim Keane - Butte
  • Dan Villa - Ananconda
  • Dave Gallik - Helena
  • Jonathan Windy Boy - Box Elder
  • Eve Franklin - Great Falls

Montana State Senate - Republican

  • Cory Stapleton - Billings
  • Dan McGee - Laurel
  • John Brueggeman - Polson
  • Bob Story - Park City
  • Rick Laible - Victor

Montana State Senate - Democrat

  • Mike Cooney - Helena
  • Vicki Cocchiarella - Missoula
  • Jim Elliot - Trout Creek
  • Dan Harrington - Butte
  • Trudi Schmidt - Great Falls
  • Jesse Laslovich - Anaconda - Our future Governor will most likely decline to run for a Leadership post, and instead become the Chair of the Judicary committee

Now who are likely... and in which positions, another post perhaps [or] discuss amongst yourselves

I could be wrong -- things may have changed -- but I think Carol Williams in the Senate and Dave McAlpin in the House are also contenders.

Excellent (D) contenders, Matt, & I'm sure a few others, particularly if two whip positions or caucus leader position is used.
