public telephone.jpg4&20 has discussed net neutrality from the political side, and many of the entrepreneurial blogs that are found on the MOTTO roll, including the latest posting on the subject at A VC, discuss net neutrality as well.  The VC's and entrepreneurs, however, look at the issue a bit differently, yet with many of the same conclusions of the political bloggers, but perhaps for different reasons.

But there is one thing that I think we *must* protect with regulation. We cannot allow the telcos and cable operators to discriminate traffic on the basis of what is in the packet. That is the central issue in Net Neutrality in my mind.

Fred at A VC does a great job in succinctly bringing the issue to rest at the feet of the large telcos & cable co., correctly pointing out the advances in & for the web have come from start ups. He forwards a message that innovation will outpace government regulation.  Deregulation is also a focal point of the discussion, as it has not spurred the competition one thought.  What has happened, however, is the increase in products, software, and service delivery we all see and use everyday by thousands of companys and millions of users.  Now they (telcos/cable) want to take advantage of those companys hardwork and our foresight.

Regardless of your political affiliation, one thing does seem to be clear, if you use the web in any meaningful way, whether that be light blogging or full business enterprise, you have a stake in the issue.
