mt const.jpgWith the recent legal woes of the initiatives, the citizen initiative process is front and center.  This commentary will focus on constitutional initiatives.  CI 97 and CI 98 are initiatives meant to change Montana's most sacred document, our Constitution.  This is a big deal, minimized by the actions of the front groups supporting their cause.  Sign here, and here, and here.  Your taxes will be lowered.  Have a good day.

Any cause worthy of changing our Constitution should 1st respect the process.  The process was not designed to be easy, for good reason, we are changing our Constitution!  The document deserves more respect than hiding behind an "educational" group.  If you want to change the document, let us know who you are.  Sunshine in any noble effort will not harm a credible movement, only strengthen it.  The process deserves complete explanations of cause and effect, and supporters and signature seekers  who can provide relevant information.  Finally, the process itself must be honored with fact, not fabrication.

We, the voter, need to be responsible as well.  We need to ask tough questions and spend some time reviewing any offer to sign a petition. We cannot take the initiative process for granted either.  After all, it is our Constitution.
